Ubisoft announces The Engine Room, gives insight into games development

Ubisoft has announced The Engine Room, which is a blog allowing game developers to updates and practices with the development community.

According to Olivier Gueydon, director of tools and middleware at Ubisoft, the website was the result of Ubisofts employees’ desire to have an official channel to talk about technology with other professionals around the world.

By sharing knowledge, best practices and insightful ideas, we hope it will serve to nourish insightful conversation within the technology community and maybe stimulate new innovations, he told Gamasutra at GDC.

Windows XP market share goes down in February 2012

You may remember that a month ago, we reported that the worldwide market share for Windows XP-based PCs actually went up slightly in January 2012. There was no explanation as to why a 10 year old operating system would actually gain users after such a long time.

Now things seem to be getting back to normal. The newest PC operating system report from Net Applications claims that while Windows XP is still the worldwide leader, its percentage has gone back down to 45.39 percent, compared to Januarys 47.19 percent.

Microsofts latest OS, Windows 7, gained some market share in January.

Online Role-Playing Games Can Harm Your Marriage, Study Says

It may be because you’re up all night slaying dragons, but online gaming—particularly role-playing games—harm your marriage. The findings from Brigham Young University were published in the Feb. 15 Journal of Leisure Research.
