MSI Wind Top 2420 3D Review

With built-in 3D support and some serious muscle under the hood, MSI’s Wind Top AE2420 3D offers a tantalizing view of the future of this form factor. A 2.8GHz Core i7-860, 4GB of RAM, an ATI Radeon Mobility HD 5730 graphics part, Wi-Fi, and 1TB of SATA2 storage make this a solidly conceived all-in-one PC, even if it feels a wee bit unpolished.

With a 2.8GHz Core i7-860 under the hood and 3D Blu-ray support, MSI’s Wind Top has some muscle.

As an example, this was the only system we tested without an integrated Bluetooth keyboard and mouse—we had to plug in the included USB dongle to connect the mouse and keyboard. That’

Sony HD-PG5U External Hard Drive with USB 3.0 Puts Sony’s Spin onto Storage

At this point, you’re going to have to work moderately hard if you want to stand out in a crowded market, and there are few markets more crowded than the storage space. HDDs, SSDs, USB, FireWire, Gig-E – so many options for expanding your data pool. Sony decided to finally dip their hand in the ring, and they did it with style.

The new HD-PG5U works as an external hard drive. As such, you can plug it into any USB 3.0 or USB 2.0 port and have access to a large, fast and portable storage space.

Chromebooks sell out in 4 hours.  Rigged?

The Samsung Chromebook went on special invitation-only sale at 9am at high end member-only retailer Gilt.com.  By 1pm, the number of Chromebooks set aside for the pre-sale were gone.  Offers to be wait-listed were found by those hoping to pick up the machine with an eight second boot up.  What we don’t know is how many were offered through Gilt.com.

Invitations to the sale were sent to current Chromebook users from Google’s pilot CR-48 program.  The sale occurred two weeks before the public launch of the Samsung Chromebook.  Is Google testing the water to see what demand exists or is it something different.

Next week will be all Apple news.  There’s little Google can throw out that won’t be a footnote then, perhaps even about Android.  Google may have seized this opportunity to score some media points with this sale by limiting how many Chromebooks were available so sell-out stories could take form.

What’s your take?  Non-story (that I took the bait on) or Google sizing up demand?

Apple, Lenovo take chunks out of rivals

Apple and Lenovo PCs made huge gains in their respective second quarter shipments while those by HP and Dell remained flat, according to analyst firms Gartner and IDC.

Apple’s PC shipments to the US grew 8 percent to 1.8 million, defying the weak consumer market there, while shipments by leaders HP and Dell fell 1.2 percent and 9.8 percent respectively on last year’s figures.

Apple had just over 10 percent share of the US PC market, according to Gartner and IDC. Howev
