Rumor: WebOS developer logs show netbook, slate smartphone

HP is working on bringing WebOS to devices beyond the ones that were officially announced, that we know already. Now thanks to some developer logs we have hints at a WebOS smartphone without a keyboard, and a larger device with a non-sliding keyboard which could be a netbook of some sort.

From the developer logs we can tell that the smartphone has a resolution of 480×320 like the Pre 2, and it running WebOS 3. This could be the same phone that we’ve seen blurry images of in the past. Why it’s packing such a low screen resolution is bothersome, though. Hopefully this is just for testing, and any actual slate-style WebOS phone would a a resolution of at least 800×480.

The netbook, on the other hand, is running at a resolution of 1024×768. The OS version isn’t even listed as WebOS, but as “Nova Dartfish.” This is something completely new, but not unexpected. There have been rumors of WebOS netbooks ever since HP announced the mobile OS would be coming to PCs. The possibility of a WebOS netbook is interesting. Though, as Engadget points out, this could simply be a test of the TouchPad in a special dock running future a version of the OS.
