FCC axes LightSquared LTE dreams

MORE ON LTE SPECTRUM: LTE spectrum: How much do the big carriers have?

BACKGROUND: With LightSquared deal, Sprint finally gives in to LTE

The FCC made its decision in the wake of a report by the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) that showed that the proposed LightSquared LTE network could not operate over satellite spectrum without critically interfering with GPS services that rely on the same spectrum. The commission is now proposing to rescind the conditional waiver that it had granted LightSquared to start work building an LTE network on the spectrum.

“This proceeding has revealed challenges in maximizing the opportunities of mobile broadband for our economy,” the FCC wrote in a prepared statement.

Double Fine Adventure shatters Kickstarter records, nears $1 million

Crowd sourcing platform Kickstarter has confirmed suspicions by admitting Double Fines Adventure has broken more than one record.

Double Fine Adventure has broken Kickstarter records for most funds raised in 24 hours and highest number of backers, the company revealed on Twitter.

The fundraiser continues to accumulate so quickly that any mention of totals will be out of date almost immediately, but at time of writing was sitting at over $922,000, putting Double Fine on track to reach $1 million within one day.

The independent developer initially requested just $400,000 $300,000 to make the game and $100,000 to develop a documentary delivered to the projects backers and has promised to roll extra funding back into the project.

Double Fine boss Tim Schafer told Kotaku the extra money could fund a number of special effects and extras beyond the initial budget.

“If we really really really exceed the goals, I think it will make people really notice, and see that there are a lot of different unique, creative ways to fund a game, he said.

Industry insiders have been quick to point out that Double Fine can use every cent it gets; BioWares Manveer Heir estimated that $1 million would pay around 20 people for five months at an average studio when all costs are considered.

Double Fines success hints at a future for games foreshadowed by the music industry.

Of course, hardly anyone would ever think to use Inno3D GeForce GT430 4GB for video games, all the same performance in the accelerator is not the most outstanding. Full Post…

The ESRB has said that Soul Calibur V will allow you to augment the size of female breasts in the game.

It reads in a rating recently listed on its website: Some female fighters wear outfits that reveal large amounts of jiggling cleavage and portions of their buttocks.

On the character creation menu, players can augment fighters breast sizes and manipulate the camera to zoom in on their bodies.

The ESRB also said the game will have players use guns, swords, spears and other melee weapons to strike opponents and drain their health meters, as well as characters getting impaled with swords.

The games out on January 30 in the US and February 2 in Europe for PS3 and 360.
